C1 Phase 1 review
One pass across the six lessons, weighted towards reformulation and precision.
Six lessons, one pass. The questions here are mostly of the form "say the same thing differently" or "which of these means exactly that" — because at C1 that is where the difficulty actually lives, not in endings.
| Lesson | The one thing to retain |
|---|---|
| 1 Hedging | certainty and attribution are two separate dials |
| 2 Density | find the article, jump to the noun, then read the middle |
| 3 Nominalstil | a nominal phrase has no subject — check whether you need one |
| 4 Particles | they carry attitude, not content, and never come first |
| 5 Connectives | each names one exact relationship; they are not synonyms |
| 6 Register | fit, not height — and the dials are person, density, words, certainty |
If you remember one thing from the phase: never change the strength of a claim you are reporting. Everything else can be repaired by a reader; that cannot.
