Alternatives to the passive
Das Problem kann gelöst werden — or lässt sich lösen, or ist lösbar. Three forms, three different emphases.
The passive is correct and common, and nothing here replaces it. But German has three lighter ways to say the same thing, and a B2 reader meets all of them constantly.

man is a subject, not an object: Man kann … Never "Mann" — that is a man, with two n.
Man kann das Problem lösen.

the everyday, spoken option
Das Problem lässt sich lösen.
The problem can be solved.
lässt sich + infinitive — no agent at all
Die Datei lässt sich nicht öffnen.
The file will not open.
extremely common when something refuses to work
Das Problem ist lösbar.
The problem is solvable.
now it is an adjective — a property, not an event
Der Fehler wäre vermeidbar gewesen.
The mistake would have been avoidable.
-bar attaches to the verb stem and means "can be …-ed": lösen → lösbar, machen → machbar, sehen → sichtbar, vermeiden → vermeidbar, bezahlen → bezahlbar. It is productive but not unlimited — essbar exists, trinkbar exists, but you cannot invent one for every verb and expect a German to accept it.
None of the three is a universal replacement. man needs a human doer; lässt sich and -bar only work where the meaning is "can be done" — not for a plain report of what happened.
Das Haus wurde 1890 gebaut.
The house was built in 1890.

sich lassen always means "can be done". A finished event in the past has to stay passive.
